Acupuncture for Stress Relief Providence, RI
Stress and tension have a multitude of negative side effects on the body, mind and emotional state. But the stress-tension that we deal with on a daily basis has become so normal that we often don’t pay any attention to the effects until we start experiencing pain or it begins to impact our health.
The most common symptoms of stress include:
– Neck and shoulder pain
– Insomnia and fatigue
– An inability to focus or concentrate
– Anxiety attacks
– Mood swings, depression or heightened aggression.
More sever side effects can result in:
– High blood pressure or hypertension
– Cardiovascular or heart disease
– Respiratory problems
There are many ways to treat stress/tension related disorders, most of which are medical or drug related. However, these treatments often don’t address the source of the problem and only treat the symptoms. Alternative therapies that help relieve stress and assist in dealing with the negative effects tackle the root cause.
Meditation, massage, yoga and acupuncture have all been proven to be successful in eliminating stress and some of the related symptoms. Studies have shown that of these, acupuncture offers the most comprehensive solution, combating the effects and the symptoms on many levels.
1. What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine that is based on balancing the ‘chi’, ‘qi’ or energy in the body through the 12 meridians or energy centers located on the body. The process involves inserting slim needles into various points on the body to treat different ailments.
2. How Does Acupuncture Work To Relieve Stress/ Tension?
The age old belief is that balancing the energy in the body relieves illness. However, research into the therapy has revealed some scientific evidence of how the remedy works to reduce stress levels as well as pain and other symptoms related to stress.
Most people who have undergone acupuncture relate that they feel more calm, happy and relaxed after a session. There are 3 main factors that science attributes to this feeling:
– The release of serotonin which is a neurotransmitter and aids in increased brain activity and other essential bodily functions. Stress/tension impedes the production of this hormone. Lower serotonin levels or an imbalance has been directly related to the common symptoms of stress.
– An increased production of endorphin hormones that are the body’s natural pain killers and stress relievers. Like many addictive prescription pain killers, endorphins produce a feeling of euphoria (or high). However, the natural chemical process is not addictive like most of the synthetic drugs used to combat pain or stress.
– A decrease in the presentation of other stress related hormones such as the protein neuropeptide Y, corticotropin, adrenaline and nor-adrenaline.
While research has proven that these results are present in patients who have undergone acupuncture treatment, scientists are still unsure exactly why this remedy has these positive effects on the physical body.
3. What To Expect From Acupuncture To Relieve Stress?
Stress and tension relief are often experienced by acupuncture patients directly after only one session. However, for long lasting results or to maintain stress levels in the body, ongoing or regular sessions are recommended.
During a session, needles are inserted in the common distal or local pressure points in various areas of the body – from the tips of the ears to the tips of the toes. The amount of needles used and the placement can vary depending on the acupuncturist and the individual’s requirements. An acupuncturist may alter the placement until the best results are achieved.
The procedure is not painful (other than a slight prick as the needle is inserted) when performed by a qualified and certified professional acupuncturist.
Stress, Weakness, Weight loss
Dr. Tad, his staff, Kasia and acupuncture have changed my life. I turned 50 years old this year and really felt the onset of getting older until I began my treatment with Dr. Tad. I am healthy and happier then I have been in years. I exercise every day, eat right, feel good and overall love my life. Of course, I do everything Dr. Tad has instructed as I am ultimately responsible for my own health, body and lifestyle.
By following Dr. Tad’s treatments, advice, and lifestyle changes he has made for me, I have reinvented myself and am loving this wonderful second stage of my life.

Chronic Lower Back Pain, Stress, Breast Cancer (Survivor) & Loss of Bone Density
I came to CPM because of a variety of conditions including very sore lower back pain/stiffness (chronic), stress, I had had breast cancer and my medication caused a loss of bone density.
Over a period (rather short) of time, I felt absolutely wonderful. Within a day or two of treatment, I had such a light feeling and I felt great. My back doesn’t bother me for the most part and if it does occasionally, it does not last long at all. In fact, my fact felt stronger and stronger. I could get up and out of bed without being stiff and I could even straighten up right away. That was something I haven’t been able to do in a long time. I can also get in and out of the car easier. I haven’t been to the chiropractor and I do not take toprol anymore.
Everyone at the center is so nice and they genuinely care about your progress.
